Objective

Objective

"Aiming at the overall advancement in the life of workers and their families, a healthy development of the nation's economy and stable employment, . . ."

The JTUC (Japanese Trade Union Confederation or RENGO) Research Institute for Advancement of Living Standards, shortened as RENGO-RIALS, is the "Think Tank" of RENGO, the Japanese national center. It was established on December 1, 1987, by "Private-Sector" RENGO, predecessor of the present RENGO, as the first full-scale think tank in the labor movement circles.

The objective of RENGO-RIALS (RENGO-SOKEN in Japanese) is to make a major contribution towards the overall advancement in the life of workers and their families, a healthy development of the nation's economy and stable employment. To help achieve the objective, the organization has conducted a number of surveys and studies on economic, social, industrial and labor issues with major implications on workers' lives, and has provided a variety of reference data, materials, and theoretical reports underpinning the labor movement in Japan. The institute has also actively participated in formulating RENGO's future visions and medium- to long-term policies, as exemplified by the "RENGO The 21st Century Social Security Vision."

As the economic and social environment surrounding us continues to undergo rapid changes, heightening our anxiety over our future employment and living conditions, our institute is fully prepared to continue our positive studies and surveys, looking towards a vibrant society ahead blessed with a peace of mind over our livelihood.
